Style Crush.

I am absolutely obsessed with Solange's style. From her natural hair cut to her eccentric clothes. She is everything I want my style to be, if that makes sense.lol I mean if I wasn't ballin' on a budget I would dress quite similar to her. She wears the African fabric that I love and sometimes she dresses boyish and other times feminine just like me. Anyways I adore her, it's so funny to me that she is Beyonce's little sister because if you asked me who was the tackiest celebrity on this earth I would tell you Beyonce Knowles (waits for Beyonce fans to throw tomatoes at the computer screen) lol I mean her style that is. I'm not talking about when she is on stage or at an award's show she looks gorgeous at those times. But when you see pictures of her in a magazine or what have you and she is just like going out to lunch with Jay or chillin she dresses like the typical unstylish southern Rainbow-loving ghetto girl. Forreal though. But before you guys say I'm throwing shade at Beyonce I would like to mention that her shoe game is ALWAYS on point. Back to what I was saying, Solange is flawless in her personal style and she is currently my #1 style icon.

Leopard + Tutu

Went to the Taste of Africa festival for a lil bit the other day. Passing out fliers for Miss Guinee NA 2011 and just seeing the different cultural booths and fashion shows. It was fun, the day was pretty hot but I felt comfortable in my half sleeve blouse and tutu skirt. People like to wear close to nothing in the summer but think about it, in really hot places like Egypt and other desert lands they usually cover up and protect their skin from the sun but us Americans just throw on sunblock and go all crazy which probably isn't the safest for our skin because sun tan lotion can only do so much. Anyways I'm black so what am I worried for? lol My excess melatonin keeps me safe! As you guys will soon see my closet is filled with white for this summer. I have worn so much white that I haven't even photographed and anyone who has seen me during the weekend nightlife can vouch for that. Here are a few photos from the day.

P.S. I take risks in what I wear, sometimes it works and other times not so much. Like this outfit for example, I took the risk of matching prints by wearing a leopard print top with snake-skin wedged sandals. I think it worked out well though.

Blouse: Barney's
Tutu: I'll never tell.
Clutch: Estee Lauder make-up bag.lol
Belt: Vintage
Shoes:  Christian Siriano

There were so many great shots I just couldn't help but post so click the jump for more photos.

Bet.

The other day I made this bet with my friend that I could design and hand-make, sewing and all, my own custom dress by the end of this summer and wear it on the 1st day of classes. If I succeed in creating this dress he will pay me back the cost of all my expenses...fabric and all other materials for the dress. Ofcourse I took on the challenge with no remorse because I know myself, I can do ANYTHING I set my mind to. Besides I like a good challenge and it will be a fun little summer project. Now I have already decided that it's gonna be a short dress composed of both European and Ankara (african fabric) materials. The real challenge won't be coming up with a design because I have modeled enough clothes to give me ideas on a design and I've had enough custom made gowns to know what I like. The funny part of this whole thing is I'm suppose to "hand-make" the dress and umm...my sewing skills are minimal. Seriously though, the most sewing I've done was a pillow I made my mom for mother's day in the 4th grade and the buttons I sometimes replace on my clothes. But not to worry in today's world there is a YouTube video for any and every thing so there's no reason why I can't learn. Wish me luck!

Snapshot.

I just got home from a quick photoshoot with my friend who made me model for him on a whim but hopefully the photos came out well and I can use them for my portfolio. My least favorite thing about photoshoots is getting my make-up done (the process not the actual make-up) because I'm a cry-er especially when they put fake eyelashes on me. My eyes are easily irritated, idk why. Anyways I came home and took a few photos on my webcam of the make-up they did for me which I absolutely loved! I have been practicing doing make-up for a couple of months now and I think I really have a niche for it, I'm good with the colors and all but my only thing is I can't do eyebrows to save my life. I really feel that its because I cannot draw and although I consider doing make-up to be an art form in general, eyebrows actually require drawing skill in my opinion. I did a make-up tutorial video last week which I will post as soon as Pk edits them. Anyway doe here are the photos.
