Angola is Miss Universe 2011!!!

*Luda voice* The best women in the world are from Africa....
Beating out 88 other countries, I cannot be more proud or excited that the new Miss Universe is an African! If you are friends with me on facebook or follow me on twitter (@fatimabokoum) then you know I wanted her to win before the pageant even started and I predicted her as the winner. It was just something about her, her slow elegant walk, that gorgeous smile, and body to die for...she just stood out to me. As a fellow pageant girl and African, I think Leila Lopes is absolutely stunning and I'm so glad she got that crown, well deserved. The Miss Universe pageant compared to a lot of other pageants stresses more on personality and physical appearance, it truly is a beauty contest which isn't all bad because it helps you build self-esteem and confidence. I don't think someone who doesn't believe in themselves can strut around in a 2 piece on national television now can they?
Anyways I wanted to take this time to talk a little bit about pageants because I noticed many of my followers viewed it so negatively saying it's just for superficial bimbos or that if these girls really cared about the world they wouldn't be walking around in fancy dresses on tv but somewhere in Africa feeding the children. What people don't understand is that pageants are all about creating opportunities for yourself which eventually can lead to you helping others. You help yourself so you can help others, get it? When you compete in a pageant not only can you gain life long friendships but you learn about yourself, you master your strengths and weaknesses. There is always something to take back with you from participating in pageants even if it's just a memory, because the experience is unforgettable. Now as for the winner, you don't just take home a sash and a tiara but you become a role model, ambassador, and public figure. You also get the opportunity to not only attend various events but you get to network and meet people who can help you towards your future goals. The networking possibilities are the true prize of winning a pageant. I'm not saying that there is no emphasis on beauty but for many pageants intelligence matters because there is an interview and talent competition. And you know what, so what if they judge you based on physical appereance? Queens are suppose to be the total package, brains & beauty and there is nothing wrong that! Enough of my rambling for today, I hope I changed the mind of some anti-pageant activist.lol
